Sustainable Development, Denmark’s and Taiwan’s future
Mr. Bo Mønsted
Mr. Bo Mønsted

Denmark, located in Northern Europe, has a population only a quarter of that of Taiwan. However, it has nurtured many well-known enterprises and celebrities. Besides, their two important spiritual values: "hygge" and "trust", represent "equality and well-being" and "trust" respectively.

In terms of nature-related policies, 49% of Danish energy is provided by wind power and 67.5% of electricity is green. Mr. Bo Mønsted mentioned that Denmark will build an energy island by 2033 to power more than 10 million households, and by 2050 will build enough offshore wind turbines to supply 230 million European households with green electricity. These climate actions can help mitigate climate change.

In terms of humanities, Denmark attaches great importance to equal protection. In the section of economy, Denmark is characterized by low income inequality and high social mobility. For women rights, Danish women gained the right to vote in 1915, and the current head of state is a woman. Also, Denmark was the first country in the world to have a female minister. In the aspect of labor rights, guaranteed laborers the maximum of working hours per week are 37 hours, which is lower than Taiwan’s 40 hours.

So far, Taiwan and Denmark are in long-term business collaboration, in the aspect of agriculture, the food industry, pharmaceutical, etc. Hope that in the future, there will be more opportunities for learning in both aspects of academic fields and green energy.

【Q&A】
Q: What are the effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the integration of Europe and on Denmark?
A: The Russian-Ukrainian war makes Denmark desire to stay in the EU. Originally there was no idea of staying in the EU or leaving the EU, but now after the Russian-Ukrainian war, if Denmark holds a referendum, most citizens will choose to stay with the EU. In addition, the Common Security and Defense Policy, and monetary policy can boost the integration of all of Europe.
Q: Har far does digitization Denmark wants?
A: In fact, we have not set any limits. The issue we encounter is in the process. Some older people struggle with using digital products, and there are few brick-and-mortar banks in Denmark. So digitalization is hard to promote full-fledged digitization.
Q: What effort does the government want to make to promote plant-based food?
A: In fact, the government didn’t have some policies on promoting plant-based food. The impact factors depend on the personal demand and supply of food.
